How to Prepare for Exams With Tutoring

Last week many students sat exams in English literature, and even more students have been doing mock exams in their schools. Sometimes the skills and knowledge students posses is not reflected in their exam results. This is why here at Cardiff & Vale Tutors our focus is on ‘Better Results Together’ to ensure students achieve the results they want and deserve. In this blog we will share some tips on exam preparation and what kinds of services we offer.

The first aspect of good exam preparation is being aware of when exactly the exams take place. We know this seems basic, but some students don’t know the dates of their exams and therefore it’s possible that they run out of revision time. Schools give each student an exam timetable, but this is usually quite close to the exam period. Though it’s possible to know the dates earlier and we think the opportunity to plan ahead is golden. We have recently posted a short guide on how to find out exam dates from the examining board websites, and this is available on our social media. Please feel free to have a look or contact us for further guidance.

Once students and parents know the exam dates, they can realistically set goals and times for revision. With a few months time to go before the exams, it can be tempting to say ‘oh there’s plenty of time’. Our advice is to start sooner, rather than later, because it means there isn’t as much pressure and it means more topics can be covered.

How can Tutoring help with Exams?

Although some students get on with revision independently, there are some that really struggle with this. The truth is that young people are up against so many distractions in our busy world, that for them to find the time and motivation to do independent study can be difficult. Therefore having guidance from a tutor can therefore be an immense help.

Many of our tutors are qualified teachers with years of experience that know the exam requirements and the curriculum like the back of their palms. Thus our tutors can provide a structure for pupils, and it can be a big help to students to work together with someone that will help keep them focused and on the right track. Our tutors can help students priorities and set clear revision goals.

Whether it’s a session every week, every two weeks, once a month or a few ‘last-minute’ revision sessions prior to the exam, every little bit of studying is valuable.
